Feeling jealous of all those people posting fabulous sketches on social media? Don't believe you have it in you to create a beautiful sketch?
You have never sketched before but you want to start. Urban scenes seem enticing but also intimidating.
You brought sketching supplies on your previous trips but never sat down to sketch.
You have been sketching for a while but have no idea if you are doing it right.
You just love sketching and are looking for an opportunity to improve your skills.
Windows are an easy subject to draw. This three-part workshop will guarantee a smooth start.
Windows are a perfect subject: compact, quick, and unique!
This workshop will cover all the basic sketching techniques.
Sketch along with us, ask questions and meet other sketchers.
LET ME SHOW YOU THE WAY!
While there is some magic involved, sketching is mostly about skills and systems that ANYBODY can learn.

Why are windows a good place to start?
It’s easy to get the shape and the proportions right.
Every building has windows, which means any urban sketch will normally include windows.Â
Windows include a variety of textures: wood, glass, bricks/stones around them.Â
Windows are VERY different. Shutters, ledges, ornaments, potted flowers, curtains, reflections.Â
Windows offer a peek into other people’s lives and other cultures.Â
They look great on postcards!Â
Why am I confident that you can learn to sketch beautifully?
I have seen this transformation in my students before: from the first baby steps in sketching to the joy of independent artwork.
I do not believe in sketch-along videos. They help you make a beautiful drawing but do not really teach you to sketch on your own. Instead, I always make sure that I explain, teach, and guide.
I have developed a system that consists of small skills that can be practiced separately and then brought together to create a beautiful sketch regardless of the sketching subject.
I believe that YOU are the main ingredient, not the paints, paper, and brushes. As an artist, you bring your own perspective into your sketch, and that’s the most beautiful thing!
What supplies will you need?
This is a watercolor workshop, so you will need watercolor paper, paints, and brushes. We will email you the complete list of the supplies after you sign up.Â
If you are a beginner, just bring whatever you already have and don’t worry about anything else.
How is the workshop organized?
The workshop consists of three 30-minute parts, which will run live on April 26, 27, and 28. You will have access to the replays, which gives everyone a chance to catch up before the next part of the workshop.Â
In this workshop, I will take you through the entire process of getting from a reference photo to a colorful sketch. You can then use the same process to create your own sketches.
This workshop is brought to you by Julia Henze and Brave Brushes Studio
Hi, I’m Julia Henze, an urban sketcher and art teacher based in the Netherlands.
It is my mission:
to help artists believe in themselves
to help them realize that they ARE artists
to teach them to love colors and see the beauty of lines and textures
to help them grow and thriveÂ
I’m here to help YOU:
focus on the process of making art instead of worrying about the result
have realistic expectations and stop comparing yourself to other artists
work on your sketching skills at your own pace
get that easiness, playfulness, and freedom back
I will help you get from“I don’t know what I’m doing”to the confident “I can create beautiful art“!
Impressive sketches are not a happy accident. They are a combination of your unique view of the world (something you already have) and a set of skills (something I can teach you).
Take the first step today!
